Spring cleaning week begins

Today the official opening of the Spring Cleaning Week was held in the Central Business District in a bid to clear 35 hotspot dumps. Present were residents associations, Councillors, his Worship the Mayor of Bulawayo, Senior Public Relations Officer Mrs Nesisa Mpofu, Minister of State and Provincial Affairs, Judith Ncube and citizens of Bulawayo. This comes after an outcry from various stakeholders including informal traders and residents on the uncollected heaps of garbage that threaten to tarnish the city’s image. Mrs Nesisa Mpofu said a multi stakeholder approach must be used as a strategy in cleaning up the city. “Stakeholders must work together for a good cause,” she said. “The council has resolved to conduct night cleaning in a bid to rid the city of waste and also ensure a clean environment, we note that the clean environment is a lifeblood towards achieving sustainable development,” said His Worship, Mguni.
