BVTA members to produce petroleum jelly

New Magwegwe vendors have been trained on making petroleum jelly, as alternative means to eke a living amidst the challenges caused by COVID-19 restrictions by government, that have affected activities in market places.
Vendors in Magwegwe, instead of wiling about the lockdown will begin producing petroleum jelly and supply the market after successfully completing the training.
“Vending does not evolve in selling tomatoes, sweets and airtime, to keep our businesses going, we have to empower each other as a strategy to keep relevant,” BVTA Vice President Lillian Musipani who is also the facilitator told Vendors Voice.
Petroleum jelly is a skin care product that is used by many people, they apply it to keep their skins smooth, especially during the winter season.
COVID-19 lockdown has brought negative impacts to the informal sector, as a strategy to counter the banning of informal trading, BVTA introduced the formation of clusters namely detergents making, clothing, food production and macrame.
After producing wares such as petroleum jelly, dish washing liquid, hand sanitisers and reusable masks, vendors and informal traders sell them in their communities and this avoids congestion in the CBD.
BVTA members are showing innovativeness and creativity, despite the negative challenges caused by COVID-19 induced restrictions.
